The European LeukemiaNet is a network of excellence. It is funded by the EU within the 6th Framework Programme since 2004.

The ELN has set up a network for research and patient care in the field of leukemia which brings together over 108 national leukemia study groups and their 105 interdisciplinary partners. These include over a 1000 scientists in 182 European institutions from 34 European countries caring for some ten thousand of patients.

The aim of the network is to make leukemia a curable disease.

The Portuguese Society of Hematology (S.P.H.) has nearly 400 active members and holds annual national meetings. It also co-organizes other meetings in different subjects in the area of Haematology ranging from red cell diseases to hemato-oncology and hemostasis and coagulation disorders. S.P.H. has several groups of interest namely on Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndromes, Myeloproliferative Neoplasms, Lymphomas, Red Cells and Platelets and Hemostasis which meet separately and organize their own agendas, registries and clinical studies.
