FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Record Number of Abstracts Submitted to the Barcelona, Spain 27 February 2007 -- 3,500 healthcare providers from 100 countries are expected to gather at the 9th World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer®in Barcelona, Spain from 27-30 June 2007. More than 500 abstracts have been submitted, representing the latest research from across the globe in colon, esophageal, gastric, liver, pancreatic and rectal cancer. The Congress, presented by Imedex®, in partnership with the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) is the premier platform for specialists in cancer research, leading oncologists and practicing clinicians to review the state-of-the-art in gastrointestinal cancer and share the latest information on its multidisciplinary management. The internationally recognized faculty will include Aaron Ciechanover, MD, DSc, laureate of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. 55 additional experts will participate in the scientific program, chaired by Mario Dicato, MD of the Luxembourg Medical Center in Luxembourg and Eric Van Cutsem, MD, PhD of the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Belgium. The scientific agenda is enhanced this year by expanded meet the expert sessions, providing attendees the extended opportunity to interact with leading specialists. The Congress will also introduce a new nurses program, featuring topics of special interest to oncology nurses, and an expert consensus report on rectal cancer.
