Program Overview
This enduring activity is a group of lectures taken from the “8th Annual Perspectives in Lung Cancer” meeting in Seville, Spain on 2-3 March, 2007. Several thought leaders in the area of lung cancer therapy present a fascinating review of the development of multiple biologic agents for treatment of solid tumors. Clinical trial information relevant to lung cancer therapy is discussed and future directions are identified.

Target Audience

  • Those interested in the development of targeted agents for use as monotherapy as well as in combination with chemotherapy in the therapy of solid tumors.

  • Oncologists, radiation therapists, thoracic surgeons and other physicians in active clinical practice and/or research interested and/or involved in the management of patients with solid tumors, especially lung cancer.

Educational Objectives:
After successfully completing this program participants should be able to:

  • Differentiate between different classes of targeted agents and summarize important clinical trial data relevant to the treatment of both non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer.

  • Analyze the development of multiple biologic therapies and explain their properties in relation to treatment of solid tumors including non-small cell lung cancer.

  • Discuss studies demonstrating the advantages of vaccine therapy in the management of solid tumors.

  • Describe targeting pathways of newer biologic agents such as HDAC inhibitors, mTOR inhibitors, VEGFR inhibitors, and EGFR inhibitors and point out which cancers have demonstrated response to each class of agents.

  • Distinguish which agents have shown synergistic activity with chemotherapy in the treatment of NSCLC and SCLC.

  • Review documented toxicities of various targeted agents identified in early and later clinical trials in the therapy of lung cancer and other solid tumors.
